Microneedling: It Only Sounds Terrifying…

Some generalizations make sense, and this is one of ‘em: It doesn’t matter who you ask…. the mere thought of being pricked by a needle is terrifying. See? You flinched just now just, didn’t you? Call me Aurora, but, if it were up to me all of the spinning wheels, sewing needles, and syringes in all the land would be forbidden….except for one. And, when I tell you that this needle is coming near your face, you’ll think I’ve finally lost my mind.

JM: In the past few years, microneedling has become one of the most popular procedures for skin rejuvenation. Also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or Precutaneous Collagen Induction, microneedling is a minimally invasive technique for skin rejuvenation.

You: Minimally invasive, you say? Having lots of needles in and around my face? Jane Marie. Are you out of your #$@&%*! mind?????

JM: Okay, it sounds scary. I can’t argue that. But here’s what happens: tiny, disposable needles are used to create a controlled wound….a very controlled wound. (And, just so you know the key to age management is tricking the skin into thinking it’s been injured.) Once the skin believes it’s been injured, it snaps into repair mode stimulating the production of collagen and elastin while building up the mattress of your skin. Microneedling creates new, healthy tissue growth resulting in rejuvenated skin!

You: Is it all of the time you’ve been spending formulating products in the lab? Has all that Vitamin A gone to your head or something?? That must be it…

JM: No, no, no! Everything in moderation. When we have a controlled wound, as in the case of micro needling, we must address wound repair! In my office, we use the Rejuvapen system, and we apply a topical numbing agent- you won’t feel a thing! Using the proper ingredients post-treatment is so super important! And if you’re receiving a series of treatments, you need to be committed to following your aesthetician’s instructions.

You: YOU need to be committed!

JM: Microneedling helps to improve the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, melasma, pore size, stretch marks, and it results in a noticeable improvement in the overall firmness and appearance of the skin. The procedure is well tolerated by patients of all ages, races, and skin types with minimal downtime.

You: Did you just say stretch marks? And smaller pores and tighter skin and no fine lines? Wait…..

JM: Yep! And I even have the proof. A ten year study of 480 microneedling patients showed a 60-80% improvement, a significant increase in collagen and elastin, as well as a 40% thickening of the stratum spinosum- one of the five layers of the epidermis located closer to the dermal layer.*

You: Really??? Well… I guess they do say “No pain, no gain.” OMG, Jane Marie, when can you fit me in? Do you have anything open this week? I mean I can free up my schedule if you have something earlier… Are you free tomorrow?

Science. Truth. Results.
